Why try drop shipping on eBay?
I began selling on eBay almost four years ago. At the time, I was working behind the bar at an insanely popular chain restaurant and at the end of my pregnancy with our second son. He was already a week overdue and it was time for me to sit the hell down!
If you know anything about working in the restaurant industry, you know things like maternity leave are unpaid. What was I going to do for extra money? The restaurant required I be out a minimum of six weeks, but if I wanted to stay at home any longer with my newborn, I had to think of something.
Four years and two more baby boys later, I have learned quite a bit about online reselling. Below is a list of things I have learned, like drop shipping, that will no doubt make you more successful selling online.
Find Items at Home
Selling items from around your house is the best place to start on eBay in my opinion. If you are new to eBay, the first thing you want to do is to become familiar with how everything works. If you are selling things you already own and aren’t using anymore, there is no risk of losing money. Profits won’t be huge, but you will learn how the website works and what types of products sell best.
Starting small will also give you time to raise your seller feedback. The higher your feedback the better. Your feedback rating on eBay is everything! With low scores, buyers won’t take you seriously. This is why starting with the big name, high dollar products, in the beginning, is a waste of time.
Try Drop Shipping and Wholesale Lots
Try finding wholesale lots of household products that people use daily. Clothing, towels, cosmetics, just to name a few. It is important not to try and sell everything, instead, pick a group of products and sell within that group. To give you some ideas, here a few things I have been successful with.
- Clothing – Accessories, children’s clothes, maternity wear
- Beauty Products – Cosmetics, Sunscreen, Hair Care Products, Hair Stylers
- Books– Textbooks, Cookbooks
- Home Decor– Sheets, towels, vases, candles
- Kitchen– Pots and Pans, dishes, toasters, microwaves, blenders
Drop shipping is a good option if you do not have a lot of money put into your business in the beginning. This allows you to sell products before purchasing them from wholesalers.
The risk with drop shipping is small because you don’t have to put a lot of money in to start. Another perk to drop shipping is not having to store all of your inventory, which can be a huge headache, trust me!
I learned about drop shipping and began using wholesalers when I discovered SaleHoo. SaleHoo gives you access to over 8,000 wholesale suppliers around the world and they also give you direct access to tons of products available for drop shipping. SaleHoo also has some very handy market research tools available.
One of those being the Market Research Lab. I have found the SaleHoo Market Research Lab to be one of the best places to find profitable items to sell. This tool will also help you figure out how much money you can make selling different items. Access to the lab is free when you Join SaleHoo.
